1 Timotius 1:9

1:9 realizing that law ¹  is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,

1 Timotius 6:2

6:2 But those who have believing masters must not show them less respect ²  because they are brothers. Instead they are to serve all the more, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved. ³ 

Summary of Timothy’s Duties

Teach them and exhort them about these things. ⁴ 

[1:9]  ¹ sn Law. There is no definite article (“the”) with this word in Greek and so the inherent quality of the OT law as such is in view. But the OT law is still in mind, since the types of sinful people surveyed in vv. 9b-11a follow the general outline of sins prohibited in the Decalogue.

[6:2]  ² tn Or “think the less of them”; Grk “despise them,” “look down on them.”

[6:2]  ³ tn Or “those who devote themselves to service are faithful and dearly loved” (referring to slaves who serve them).

[6:2]  ⁴ tn Grk “these things teach and exhort.”
